COMMENT: Brian Gallant's First Budget: The Wrong Direction for New Brunswick

Brian Gallant has failed to live up to the Liberal commitment to move New Brunswick forward, yet again saying one thing but doing another.  This budget moves New Brunswick in the wrong direction - backward.

Government of NB wants to lock in the media

Editor's Note: The New Brunswick Government will be tabling their Budget, but it looks like it wants to control the media prior to its release.  I would suggest If they want to release it to the media then do so after it is tabled in the legislature, embargoes are only a courtesy if the public interest is served.  The actions of this government shows an intrenched view of controlling the media message.

The media should not be involved in these types of agreements from the governing power.

COMMENT: Shale Gas Lobbyists ignore implications for public health, ethics and will of the people

The supporters of the shale gas industry - the industry itself, the PC-Opposition energy and various editorialists - have lately been calling for the lifting of the moratorium. Their sole, well-worn and questionable economic argument for this demonstrates a lack of understanding of the two basic reasons for a moratorium in the first place.

The primary reason for a moratorium is concern for public health. Increasingly numerous peer-reviewed studies have now associated shale gas extraction with a host of serious health problems from cancer to congenital heart defects, which is cause enough for alarm.  More importantly, each study points out how much more we need to know.

COMMENT: Blaine Higgs on Liberal reckless dismantling of former accountability laws

This is the second in a series of articles on the operations of government by former Finance Minister Blaine Higgs.

To be accountable and transparent, one must provide more than words; the sincerity of one's intentions toward such values is demonstrated only through action.
